Use this checklist as a guide to make sure that all information
and material is included when submitting a building permit
application.
Fill out an
application for a building permit before coming to City Hall
to submit necessary information, if you like.
Please be aware that your project may also
require a permit from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.
Please check out the MCWD permitting page to find out!

All signs over 4 sq. ft. erected in the City of Medina require a
Sign Permit. Sign Permits are issued similar to building permits.
Please refer to the
Sign Permit Checklist for what materials must be submitted to
receive a sign permit. Permits for signs 50 sq. ft. or smaller are
$100 and permits for signs over 50 sq. ft. are based on the state
1994 Building Permit Fee Schedule.
Mechanical installations, plumbing work, residing, re-roofing,
replacing windows, and similar projects require less information and
can usually be issued with one stop at City Hall. The following
information will be needed to issue a permit in this situation:
Address where work will be occurring; Contractor's License Number;
The number of fixtures or pieces of equipment being installed; and
Building Permit fee, as prescribed by the
City
Fee Schedule.
Once the permit has been issued, work can commence on the
project. Information will be provided with the permit regarding
when inspections will need to be carried out, and how to schedule
appointments with the Building Inspector.
In 2008, the City of Medina revised the Open Burning
Ordinance 505. A
major change in the ordinance is residents are exempt from the
permit requirement if the burn is for recreational purposes (no
larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’).
This would include a campfire or a fire contained in a
charcoal grill, camp stove, or other device designated for the
purpose of warming, cooking, or ceremonial purposes.
In the past we required an annual permit for the recreational
fires.
If you are planning other burns, such as large amounts of brush or
vegetation, a permit is still required.
If you are planning for a prairie burn please check out the
new
ordinance, there are new requirements in the ordinance that you
must follow.
Please contact the Medina Police Department at (763) 473-9209 if you
have any questions. If
you would like to apply for a permit, you can stop by our office at
2052 County Road 24.
For hunting permits, you need to have a landowner's consent. You can fill out the
Landowner's Consent Form on-line and print it out for the signature, then bring it to the Police Department for the rest of the permit. If you have any questions, please contact the Police Department (northwest entrance to City Hall) or call Cec Vieau, Police Assistant, at
(763) 473-9209.
If you are interested in peddler, solicitor,
or a transient merchant permit, the first step is to read Chapter
640 of the Medina City Code related to these permits.
The second step would be to fill out the City of Medina's
Peddler, Solicitor, Transient Merchant Permit Application and return it to City Hall. Please review the
instructions to the applicant carefully before returning to make
sure your application is complete and you understand the process.
Transient merchants must also submit a site plan that meets the
temporary outdoor sales ordinance. Please review the
Temporary
Outdoor Sales Checklist.
A Special Event Permit is required to hold
certain special events within the City of Medina. Please call City
